FAQ
Your questions – our expertise!
What does ‘Coaxworks GmbH’ (coaxworks® for short) offer?
We manufacture reliable processing heads for attachment to your laser processing machine or robot. The laser optics contained therein enable you to perform ‘laser wire deposition’. We also offer additional products and services related to these laser welding heads.

What is ‘laser wire deposition’?
In this form of laser welding, the laser melts a metal wire. This melt bonds with the underlying workpiece, is deposited there and hardens (‘welds’).
Many advantages combined in one process
- Precise laser for processing with virtually no heat-induced distortion.
- Productive process due to large amount of material applied.
- Clean, without unnecessary material residues in your machine.
Your options include, for example
- Surfacing (making a coating)
- Repairing
- 3D printing

What can be ‘surfaced’ ?
You can make a cladding or a coating onto your components shape with resistant metal. This protects the surfaces of your parts, for example, and makes them more durable. All materials that can be welded can be surfaced.

What kind of ‘repairs’ are possible?
With the new metal, you can repair specific worn or broken parts of defective components. This saves costs compared to buying new parts and reduces machine downtime, for example.

What can I ‘3D print’ with it?
Print completely new individual elements or assemblies. With this process, also known as ‘additive manufacturing’, you can freely define the shape and size in 3D according to your ideas and requirements in technical and artistic applications.

What can our products ‘laser welding heads’ do?
Special features of our products
- They weld evenly, regardless of the direction, thanks to our 3-beam system.
- They protect your environment and the workpiece from damage if the processing head occasionally collides with the workpiece (‘collision protection shutdown’).
In addition, our laser welding heads can
- print with long-term consistent quality,
- process ‘weldable metals’ (steel, copper, cobalt, aluminium, titanium, silver and many more),
- be attached to lasers with the ‘LLK-D’ and ‘QBH’ interfaces, and
- process metal wires with diameters from 0.4 to 1.6 mm.

What can our ‘wireM’ processing head do?
The ‘wireM’ laser welding head can
- operate at up to 4 kW laser power,
- melt and apply up to 2 kg/h of wire (with steel) and
- offer reliability, as confirmed by many satisfied customers worldwide.

Where can our processing heads be installed? – the ‘laser processing machine’
The basic functions are described in the ISO 11553 series of standards. Our products obtain energy, media and control from there. The laser welding head can be attached to various handling units such as CNC guides, as well as to a standard robot. The processing head is a safe component that can be easily replaced by the customer.
Your advantages
- Legal compliance with our own CE marking on the laser welding head.
- Safety through applicable harmonised standards (ISO 11553, ISO 12100, ISO 52900, ISO 11145, ISO 581 and many more).
- Flexibility through possible customer-specific adaptations to your requirements.

What can this ‘collision protection shutdown’ developed by us do?
A processing head always works very close to the workpiece. If errors occur in the relative movement, unwanted contact between the two can sometimes occur. In this situation, our laser welding heads immediately send a signal to shut down your laser processing machine. This prevents any damage. The same applies to a welded wire; our processing heads also send a signal in this case.
Who might be interested in our products?
We have experience in selling multiple products and supporting committed partners on several continents in the fields of research and industry. The possible applications are almost all those in which metal is worked in a modern way – from automotive to mechanical engineering, from single to series production, from small to large, and from fully to semi-automated. We support our customers from the initial enquiry with our comprehensive know-how for the desired application. We also offer training and additional equipment for our products, as well as comprehensive technology consulting.
